I live in Montreal Canada (we experience some truly horrible winter driving conditions ... snow and ice) I have a 2000 328 and have to by a set of winter tires.

I am considering the Pilot Alpine, but am wondering if these are inferior to the Arctic Alpine in winter conditions. If there is a big difference I could try and refrain from driving over 100mph and go with the Arctic Alpines.

As a reference I am used to the Blizzaks I had on my Honda the last few years. Great in snow and ice, but poor for handling and road feel.

The Artic Alpin will be better in your conditions but not nearly as good as the Blizzak tires in the ice and snow. The Blizzak tires are now better handling than they were and if I had to drive in the winters in Montreal I would highly recommend the Blizzak tires. I drive a 138is and have used the Blizzak tires for 4 years.
