Tires for 94' 540iA (archive)

I bought this 540iA with Pirellis on it. They were fairly new, but have worn to the point of replacement in only 20,000 miles. I take 225/60/R15. Someone told me that the Pirellis SP400o that are on there weren't meant for the weight of that car and that was why they wore out so fast. True? What is the brand to buy? Need to move soon.
