Q for Tire Rack guys re: 330xi (archive)

My dealer tells me that most 17" BMW wheels will not work on our new 330xi, which came with the 17x7 sport package wheels, but he doesn't know why. I assume it must be the offset. Can you shed any light on this? I was leaning towards aftermarket wheels anyway, but now I'm worried about proper fitment. Thanks for the help.
