Hi Christ,

I cannot agree with you more! The wheels don't really look that great on photos (I thought I liked the BBS RC style better) but once they are on the car, they are simply stunning! And probably mich easier to keep clean than the RC as well...

Since I didn't get much replies here I went ahead to get the 4-wheel alignment done yesterday. I didn't stay the whole time but it involved putting some infra-red sensors onto the vehicle and setting with computers...when I got the car back later on I couldn't believe it - the car was simply going damn straight even at highway speed with my hands off the wheel (only momentarily of ocurse)! And even the slight tendency to pull to one side when braking was completely eliminated. Only when the pavement is really bad there's some "following the contour" at low speed but then I guess that probably has more to do with the much lower profile (40) and sightly wider tire compared to the stock size (60 profile) I had on the car.

What tires do you have on your RKs? I have the Goodyear "Revspec" which are meant for the Japanese local market and not for export (but strangly, all kinds of "parallel-imports" exists in Hong Kong). Little inforamtion is on the sidewall and the only info I got is that they are Z-rated...no UTQG rating, construction nor even loading information. But the tread pattern is exactly the same as the Goodyear F1 Eagle GS. The wet performace of these is simply great...was raining slightly last night when I took the car out for a spin and at those bends that I would have my oversteer with my previous tires I simply couldn't get my tail out...maybe I wasn't driving them hard enough but since the tires are still quite new to me I thought it would be better to take some time to learn where the limit is...

I'll bet the BBS RKs look even more impressive on the E39 540 of yours...always thought the 5-er has a much more sporty, muscular look to it than the 7-er.

Rgds,

Richard

Just got a set for my e39 540--they are gorgeous wheels (and, as the subject said, much better looking in person as well)!

From my understanding, you don't need to do an alignment unless your suspension geometry is changed by your wheel/tire change (which probably most wheel/tire changes will do).

If the car is pulling at any time other than at slow speeds over uneven terrain, you probably need an alignment.
