MZ3 tires: sizes, etc. (archive)

Time to replace to OEM tires on my 2000 MZ3 - found a screw in the right rear the other day (grrrrrr). Given that the rainy season is soon to be upon us here in the SF Bay Area, the Bridgestone S02 Pole Positions are looking good. Anyone have recommendations for/against those tires?

I'm also wondering about sizing - stay stock or go wider a notch? Protecting the rims is one appeal to a slightly wider tire. What difference does a little more width make (other than slight speedometer difference - ie a larger contact patch, is it significant, etc.)?
