Cupping or "heel-toe" wear would definitely be the source of your noise. Depending on how bad it is, you might be able to reverse it by running the tires in the opposite direction (cross rotate), but it's a long shot. I suppose there might be shops that could grind off some of the tread, but then you'll lose some snow traction and there's no guarantee of noise reduction since snow tires are going to be kind of noisy anyway.


I bought a used set of snow tires off this board a few months back, installed them, and they are very noisy. They looked slighly cupped on the outer edge. Could that be the main source of noise or could it possibly be due to them being out of balance. Can the cupping be "ground" out?
