m6 wheels on 89 525i (archive)

i just put a set of 17x8 bmw two piece wheels off a 98 525i sport on my 88 m6(they look and fit great) using the tire rack adapters.
now i am wondering if the stock m6 wheels will fit on my 89 525i?
i would think that the m6 wheel hubs would be to small in diameter for the 525 since i had to use the adapters on the 525 wheels to make hole smaller to fit m6.
but dealer said would fit. would just try but have to drag wheels out of off sight storage,so wanted to know if will fit first
