235s or 245s on 8" wheel? (archive)

Hi,

I'm considering BBS RX IIs for my e36 m3 and had a few questions about tire sizing. According to the 'ol tirerack, 235/40s are the correct size for 17x8s on that car, but I was wondering about the possibility of going to 245/40s (255s?). Will there be any clearance issues going with 245's all around? A friend mentioned the possibility that going with a 245 on an 8" wheel might actually yeild worse handling than a 235 as it might reduce sidewall stiffness. (For what it's worth, I'm most likely going with S-02s.)

Thoughts/ideas...?

TIA,
Jason
