casting is basically melting metal alloy and pouring it into a mold. forging is melting metal and using massive amounts of pressure to pull it into a mold. forging makes the metal denser and therefore stronger. because of this, wheel manifacturers can make all the parts thinner to save weight but not sacrifice any strength. also, because of the nature of forging, the "grains" in the metal are directional which also enhances strength. so if you are looking for strength, go forged. they do cost more though but you get what you pay for. casting is weaker and heavier, but also much cheaper. check out ssr wheels. they have a special forging method that makes their products very strong yet light, but also affordable.
