I have a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE730s on my car in 225/45 R17. Originally when I purchased the tire, I had heard good things about it. Everyone was telling me how good the tire is.

These are the loudest tires I have ever used. It sounds as if I have tread several inches thick. I can hear the tires decrease in noise frequency everytime I slow down and increase in frequency when I take off. The sidewall is also rather hard. I currently have a psi of only 20 but the sidewall looks as if it is maxed out at 40 psi.

1. Does anyone know what causes tires to be louder than others?

2. What is the quietest tire out there that would come in sizes "225/40 R18 front" and "255/35 R18 rear"?

3. I have heard of the Pirelli P7000. Is this a good tire?

4. Is softness equated with quietness but decreased longevity?

Thank you very much for your answer to these questions.
