E-30 and Borbet spacers- is this normal?? (archive)

Bought a set of 15x7" Borbet type Cs from the Tirerack, along with pre-mounted RE71s (205-55). They came with 10mm spacers. I mounted them up today for a test run (making a road trip south, no snow in forecast).

Question is, is it normal to use these spacers? Are they necessary? I think they make the wheels "look cool" since they stick out a bit farther, but I am skeptical because the bolts can't go into the hub as far now....I don't want any wheels to fall off!!

Tirerack did provide new bolts which are slightly longer than stock, but they definately do not go in as far. The new bolts (with spacers and Borbets) only screw about 3 turns into the hub....the stock ones (with stock BBS) screw in AT LEAST 5-6 turns. Should I be worried?

Thanks, Mike
