Winter driving in an X5 (archive)

Just ordered my X5 last week. Can't wait, and love the vehicle, except one thing really worries me.

I live in NE Ohio where winter can get rough. I went for the 3.0 engine instead of the larger engine as I thought that might minimize my problems in the snow. I also opted out of the sport package, as there is no chance of finding snows to fit those wheel specs. I am even having trouble finding snow tires for the 235/65R 17's that are on the car standard.

What have you other X5 snow drivers experienced? Do you need snows? What snows did you put on?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA
Rona
