Just got my Black/Black leatherette (I'm frugal) 3.0 X5. I drive it to work. I will put on seven or eight thousand miles per year. The dealer said that BMW only recommends changing the oil after TWO YEARS if the X5 has low mileage. If I want to change it before the service indicator comes on, I can pay the dealer $65. So much for three years of free "scheduled service".
If I pull out my ramps and drain and fill with Mobil 1, will that mess up the X5 service interval computer?
What are your thoughts?I have the same concern. I always changed my oil after 3,000 in a new vehicle. BMW says it's not necessary. I now have 13,000 miles on it and still have two green bars showing. It looks like free scheduled maintenance will equate to a single oil change.
