Rick,

Make sure to clear the X5's remote before you try to program it - the manual explains how to do this. You have to hold the buttons for about 25 seconds I think - a really long time before it resets. To get the X5's remote to work with my garage door, I had to first program the one in the X5 by pressing one of the X5 buttons then pressing the remote control button that opens the garage door. When it accepts the signal - the X5's LED will flash. Next, you have to hold down a button on the garage door opener itself (the box with the motor in it attached to the ceiling - not the hand remote) while you are pressing the button in the X5. Of course to do this it takes 2 people unless you have freakishly long ten foot arms. Check your manual for your garage door opener - I found mine on the net - this may explain more.

Good Luck!
