Hmm,
I don't ever remember once reading about the 4.4i having stalling problems. Plenty on the 3,0 but never on the 4.4i. I think its a problem isolated to the 3.0i and can be fixed by recalibration of the ECU. Then its a fine line between idle speed so low it stalls to having it set so high that the engine vibrates.

At least they didn't:
A) Say, "We adjusted your idle. It's fixed now."
B) Say, "They all do that."
C) Leave you without a loaner of any kind.

So back in the spring when we decided to go for the X5 I started reading this forum. There were already messages about 4.4's stalling (ECU problem).

When we ordered the wife's new car, I said to our salesperson "At bimmer.org there are many reports of stalling due to engine computer problem. They wouldn't still ship a car with a software problem, would they?"

"No, this is BMW!" I was told.

Got the X5 a month ago. Has stalled on the wife FOUR times! I called the salesperson. "Remember when I told you about the stalling problem...."

She gets back to me "our service guys say it is just an idle adjustment, bring it on in."

I bring it in. I say to the guy "you know, at bimmer.org several...." He says "oh no, we fix it right here." I leave it, have someone from work pick me up.

As I walk in the door to my office my phone is ringing "We have to pull the computer and send it to the factory. Going to take three or four days." Then they tried to tell me how they are going to put me in an enterprise rental. RIGHT! (Stupidest &**&&%^% rental company on the planet).

Next week they'll give me a bmw loaner and solve it, hopefully.

What the H%*L is wrong with these people?

Bonehead Maintenance Workz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why don't they:

1. Not ship cars with bad software.
2. Burn new chips for the cars already shipped and send them to the dealer.

I can get this kind of poor service from the GM dealer for a lot less money!

Bob.
