The xenon headlights are not just a different color--thay have a different light pattern and about twice as much light output. There's no filament in the "bulb" like a standard bulb, and it has a high voltage power supply, probably about 3,000 volts (I'm too lazy to go out & look).
You can get aftermarket bulbs for your existing headlamps that have a higher watt rating and will therefore be brighter. That's the best way to improve the existing lights.

Has anyone had the BMW dealer install Xenon lights into a X5 3.0 that already came with standard Halogen headlights? I think I made a mistake for not ordering mine with Xenon. It's now too late to have manufacturer to do anyting. My X5 3.0 is due to arrive this Friday. Please advise.
