I have heard on the 5 series board that there may be problems with the new 3.0l engine. I am expecting delivery of my 530 in 2-3 weeks. Can some one summarize these problems? I have tried searching the archives but only find "engine light on" articles. I would like to verify that these "problems" have been resolved BEFORE I accpet delivery of the car. Any help would be VERRY much appreciated.

Thanks ahead of time

There have been a number of people who have had "stalling" problems with the 3.0 engine in the X5.

If I am correct the current official solution has been to have the ECU returned to BMW by overnight express for re-programming and return to the dealer which means that the vehicle is out of action for 3 days. To my knowledge this has solved the problem. A quick fix has been to increase the engine idle speed slightly but this is not an approved solution.

Presumably, there is a point in production in the very near future where the engines being used will had had the fix.

Please note that not everyone has experienced this problem. We also don't know if the 530 is affected as they are just now arriving in the United States. I would believe that it will be several months before we know if any of the 530's have the same problem.

Hope this helps.
