The cargo area is sufficient if you don't bring along a lot of excess and pack carefully, and do not mind blocking your rear window. As my fiancee and I seem to carry a lot of crap with us - golf clubs, beach chairs, inflatable kayak (with paddles, life vests, air pumps, etc.) and the usual extras for our weekend jaunts to the shore, and do some large tailgates (for roughly 20 people) the Thule box I have works great.

Just recently we had 4 passangers, 3 huge coolers (which required 2 people to lift when full), bags of food and the like, a grill and a stove (and gas for each), etc. in the back and were able to bring chairs and a table for all of the people (15) using the box on top. I opted for the "Excursion" - I think that is the name - because I thought it looked like the most usable space for me. It does not fit skis, but I only ski 1 or twice a year, so I do not need to keep skis in a box, I can place them separate on the load bars. On this most recent use, I was able to average 18+ mpg with the box full for about 120 miles with plenty of stop and go traffic at the stadium, and had the added bonus of being able to see out my back window.

Ran,

Thanks for your feedback. Was thinking of investing in a Box for the top...Yakima or Thule...for times when luggage exceeds capacity.
