i just installed the aftermarket motorola hands free kit as i am not happy with the option(s) for the bmw phone.

for those of you interested, i can post the easiest route to power/ignition/antenna via the center console without taking the whole thing apart

this will allow you to hook up/hardwire phone/scanner/laptop without major grief.......

actually, i mounted the phone on the driver's side of the console, allowing me to see the internet microbrowser and emails i receive.....

i was going to hardwire the phone to the indwelling console, but after playing with the phone in the center armrest, it became readily and painfully apparent that one cannot access any of the non-supported phone features (ie text messages/caller id/etc) because the console is poorly designed to allow direct access to the phone (you have to bend your arm akwardly and look far far away from the road)........

so for $179 (motorola digital handsfree kit)+ $29 radioshack goose mount, i was able to use the X5s indwelling antenna and not do major work....

total install time............ about 30 minutes
