I've used regular gas when premium was horribly expensive and I know there will be little strain on the engine. For example going north on highway 5 from L.A. to San Francisco is flat and when I used regular I didn't notice any difference at all but as I say since it was flat and I was driving steady 75 there was little need for spark advance and regular was fine. Dealer said regular wouldn't hurt engine but if you driving hard it hurts performance and economy. Hope this helps.
