There's about 20 cents/gal. difference here in the Bay Area--I've been putting premium in my BMW's for the past 10 years, so I guess I'm used to it.
The "baffled" part: spend $40-50K for a car then nickel & dime the gas: if you just delete one option then you can pay for the difference, about $5-10 per week?

As to possible damage: both engines have knock sensors--burn crummy fuel, it will knock, the computer will retard the spark so there is no engine damage, but you lose power and mileage.

On the other hand, most premium fuels have a better package of additives, detergents, etc. so they will help keep your fuel system in better shape. That's why BMW used to specify which brands of gas met their standards. I don't know if they still do that, but I only use brand name premium: Chevron, Shell, or Union 76/BP: lots of detergent.

What is the impact of using regular Gas on X5? My dealer said that the fuel consumption will be higher if Octane 91 isn't used. Exept this there is no any other effect on X5.
Any thoughts?
