I test drove one today and was fairly impressed
with it. The dealer took us out and took a right
turn at 45 and the thing didn't even lean. It had
the ACE option which hydraulically adjusts the
torsion bars to keep the vechicle level. It was also
very quiet smooth riding. The ride was actually
better than my 540iA non-sport. Then he took us to
an off road course and showed us why the Land Rover is
considered the best off road vehicle in the world. I
think for a base price of 33975, I will definitely
consider the Land Rover when I am ready to buy. The
X5s are nice, but over priced. I still think BMW builds
the best cars in world however.

If you have a second car, and you dont mind the Land Rover being in the shop half the time, then the Rover is for you. The off road capabilities of these SUV's are fantastic. Although, I used to work on Land Rover vehicles and I can tell you first hand that these cars are poorly made. I could write all day about the problems with Rovers, from the bolts that were not properly torqued at the factory to the infinite wait for parts. My suggestion to anyone thats looking into buying a Land Rover, is dont. I know the X5 can't hold a candle to the Land Rovers as far as off road capabilities. This is because the X5 was designed at a point in time when BMW owned the Rover group. BMW marketing did not want to have the X5 in the same catagory as the Discovery or Range Rover. Although BMW does have plans for an X3 and X7. The X3 will be smaller and more rugged off road vehicle and the X7, will be bigger and more luxorious than the existing X5. So look out for these well made BMW's with "Rover" off road qualities in the near future.
