Hmm...don't know about that. I have had dealers replace stuff no questions asked. You might want to try another dealer. And if the steering failed on your Disco, I'm sure there would have been more damage to the X5. Don't get me wrong, I love the X5. But the hardware driving your Disco is much sturdier than the X5's. FWIW, I have taken a almost stock 1987 Range Rover on a class 9 trail in CO (1 being easy and there are no 10's in CO) and made it and nothing broke on the Land Rover. In fact, only the steering tie rod was slightly bent and it didn't even affect the vehicle. And I also have to mention that I did break a snow chain on that trail. But the Rangie was fine. Even loaded with 3 people and enough gear to camp for 3 days and photographic equiptment.
