If it makes you feel better the E36/7 (aka Z3) don't even have a place for the plug.

Al
'99 M Roadster (no flashlight)
'00 540i/6 (came with BMW glove flashlight)
'99 Discovery II (4D Maglite flashlight ;)

Just picked up my X5 and discovered that they deleted the rechargeable glove box flashlight! (Replaced receptacle with a plastic slug.) How cheap can they get, taking away a BMW "signature" item that's been in everything down to the 318i for so many years? Anyone else notice this? Looks like you could install a receptacle (61.13-8 352 336) and a rechargeable flashlight for about $50 bucks and be back in business. Query: Is the wiring harness plug for the receptacle hidden back there? -- or did they save the 50 cents worth of wire, too.

Oh well, everything else about the car is great.

I was upgrading my X5 3.0i factory alarm system and removed the glove box. The harness for the flash light is there. It's attached right behind the plastic slug.
