The general deal is this:
If you use an aftermarket product, such as a cell phone or tire chains, for instance, and they cause any damage, then that part of the car that is damaged is not covered by the warranty. For example, if the chains damage the brakes, then the warranty is void.

Using a cell phone could potentially affect ANY part of the complex electronics, and thus void the warranty on the affected component. However, I have not had a problem with a handlheld cell phone. Yet.

The most common problem recently is bonehead installers putting in aftermarket phone kits and tapping into digital bus wires to try & get 12 volts. It REALLY messes things up.

It seems that lawyers have written about 1/2 of the Owners Manual, based on the warnings & cautions I've read. I'm not surprised, though, when you consider the litigous nature of our fellow Americans. (I could rant on, but I'll be nice.)

Picked up my 4.4i yesterday, and found a sticker on the window on the driver's side that says using a cell phone other than BMW inside the car may cause damage and will void the warranty!

What's up with that? Any insights, other than a rude way to get people to pay too much for the BMW phone?
