Although i did not order the phone, my 4.4i came with the top of the center glovebox prewired for it. I was hoping to put that space to better use. Can that unit be switched out to an open well for storage? I don't remeber seeing it like that on the demo models I test drove.
Antbody have experience with this? Thanks.

Frustrated!

BMW is being totally assinine, even insulting to their customers with this mobile phone setup. Your car is pre-wired for a mobile phone. However, there is a box which is needed to make the whole thing work. This box, I don't know what this box is called. It is installed under the GPS computer. It is the final step in the wiring of the phone. Unfortunately, thanks to our manufacturer, Mr. BMW the phone still will not work properly until you install the mysterious Compensator. The Compensator is a gadget which makes the phone work almost properly and seems to be a deep dark secret as far as its function goes. If you don't want to buy into any of this nonsense, just lift the cradle and wire out, or better yet, have your dealer do it, and throw it away!
