The Bimmer changer does come with cartridge style and yes you can buy additional ones. It's a dealer installed option so you can have it installed anytime you want even 6 months, 1 year, 2 years after.

In fact my brother BimmerBoy still has a cartridge full of CDs in his 540i right now. Need to get that back.
