I just had my car broken into at a local movie theater. There was nothing stolen except for a set of keys to a bunch of junk.. but they did steal my manuals... and they left everything else, including my laptop computer in the trunk.

All my windows were open when i came out of the theater .. and the alarm was off... I noticed that they had removed the enitre lock cylinder from the drivers side door... also they opened up the glove compartment somehow, but it was still locked when i got to the car, and they took only my manuals... there was alot more stuff in the glove box... (radar.. keys...ezpass)

I remebered reading this email a while back.. and it is the exact same thing...

GM if you are reding this please tell me what happend with BMW....

I was wondering what other X5 owners think of the factory alarm. I had an unfortunate incident this past weekend. I went to see a movie and when the movie let out, I noticed all the windows on my X5 were open. I thought someone had smashed the window. When I got to the car I noticed that the windows were opened, the car was unlocked, and some of the compartments were wide opened. They didn't take much because there wasn't anything to take. But I was confused as to how the windows ended being opened and the car unlocked. That's when I noticed that they took out the entire lock cylinder on the driver side. And from that, I'm concluding that they must have deactivated the alarm and also rolled down the windows. This is very disturbing in that the car has a decent alarm but was very easily deactived by screwing around with the lock. Is this a design flaw? Is there anyway to supplement the factory alarm?
Also they took the folder that BMW gave me that held all the manuals. Is there any important information in the manual that are specific to my X5? Something that they can use to get another key from BMW to steal my car?

I appreciate any feedback.
