Peter, here is my impression after about 15 minutes behind the wheel of a 3.0i. IT'S GREAT!! Yep! That's my impression. I drove one with the steptronic tranny. It ROCKS!! I've even driven the 4.4i,...an Explorer, Expedition, Grand Cherokee V8, Pathfinder and QX4. One can say that I'm doing my home work. The X5 just feels better than all. I will add this,...Ford has installed bigger swaybars on the Explorer, so it seems. The Pathfinder lacked midrange pull. The Jeep has a nice tight turning circle. The steering in the Jeep wasn't that responsive, the suspension was sluggish. But then again, it's an SUV. The Expedition ws just that, an Expediton. I'm hoping to get another promotion soon and will hopefully have an X5 within 2 years. Gotta pay down the M3. Don't know where you live, but Phillip in Palm Harbor, FL would be glad to take you out in an X5.
