I've changed the oil in my 525i (M52 engine) and my '96 328. The oil filter is the same in all--it's in its housing at the top left of engine. I think the bolt on top is 13 mm. The top lifts off, the filter comes out. You replace the filter & selas on it. If you're looking at a 37 mm then you're looking at the wrong place.

Use either BMW's synthetic or the Mobil 1 they recommend as an alternate for best engine life.

Hase any one changed their own oil
What did you use for a filter wrench
It appears to need a 37 mm socket
