This is helpful as I am trying to decide what to do. I drive up to Lake Tahoe almost every weekend, and wondering how well X5's do. I am wondering if the sport package option is something to avoid. I heard it comes with high(er) perf tires and also because the tire well is filled in, no room for additional chains if needed. Any insight on this anyone?

Hi all,

Just to summarize,...IT WAS AWESOME. Never did once I feel
that I was slipping or sliding in my X5...actually to be honest it was boring. Though I was driving conservatively, the X5 felt like it was on the road and well in control all the time...very very normal.

The place where we stayed was somewhere in the moutains (off from the GPS) and a shaby road led to it with lots of snow and muddy roads...The x5 handled very well and I even managed to sneak it on a big piece of land with lots of snow (about 6 inches I would think) and it just went on and on and didn't get stuck.

To make a comparision, my friends Jetta with M+S tires had to be pushed to get it out of the drive way twice...X5 no problem at all.

Anyways:

Total miles one way: 190 miles
Mileage/gallon : 21.6 miles (not bad considering I have hit only 2300 miles)

I think the tires are awesome..no need to worry if you drive the X5 3.0 (non sport)

Regards,

Mickey
