Jeff-

I don't see how you compare these two vehicles! I guess the Durango's price is getting close to the X5 3 liter. I have 2 buddys with Durangos. Look cool, probably decent 4wd. I believe I have driven both. The one I know I drove must have the V8, but it is a slug. The I6 3.0 is way more agile. The ride is totally different. I feel like I'm steering a boat in the Durango. X5 feels like 528/540 with phone books stacked under my butt.

And, of course I am anal about safety. Durango doesn't even compare here. 40 mph offset collision in X5, I walk out fine. In Durango, my left foot is busted. Of course, maybe I am too quick to assume that my foot wouldn't be as strong as the steel one on the dummy.

And.. then there are all the lux items. Can you get nav, xenon, and pdc on a durango? Of course, they cost 1000's, but they're avail.

Granted, the Durango may be more suited for offroad. I'll give it that. Oh, and I would say it definately has more cargo space. I haven't measured, but it sure looks better. If that is important to someone, and lux/ride/safety aren't important, then I guess I could see SOME comparison..

test drive we sat down to talk money. It was an SLT+ with
4wd and they wanted 33k with .9% financing. We tried to
taik them down and when we said we could get an X5 for
37k the salesman said that BMWs are an inferior vehicle
to Dodge. I laughed and got up and walked out. As far as
the test drive is concerned, I didn't like the vibration
I felt in the steering. It only had 47 miles on it and
it vibrated more than my 93 Explorer. It had a 4.7 V8 in
it but quite frankly, the 3.0 feels stronger. Looks like
we'll be getting an X5 to add to my stable. Should look good
along side a 540.
