I don't know how often the refresh is. I think it depends on how fast you are driving and how quickly you move out of the area being displayed. But it isn't bad. You are looking at the road most of the time anyway. Where you are on the map is always shown. When it does refresh it hits the screen with the whole new display. It hasn't been a problem for me...
