I have just experienced another in a long line of problems with my X-5, 4.4. My daughter opened the front passenger door this morning, sat down and attempted to close the door. It wouldn't latch. When the door is shut, it doesn't latch. So rather than traveling with the passenger door "waiving in the breeze" or duct taping it closed, we took another vehicle. I've called and the flat bed will be taking it to the dealer tomorrow. This is particularly dissappointing in that we just got it back 2 weeks ago from a 5 week stay at the dealer.
I have owned 2 other 750's, an 850, and now have a 99 323 in addition to the X-5 and have always been more than happy with the quality of the product BMW produces.....until now. My exerience with this vehicle has seriously reduced my opinion.
Along with my conversation with the service manager, I intend to cancell my order for a M3 convertible.
I had anticipated the delilvery of the X-5 since placing my order, with deposite in January of 99 after seeing it at the Detriot Auto Show. I could not now, in good concience recommend this vehicle to anyone. In addition, I will be looking for another automaker who can "deliver the goods".
Thanks for allowing me to vent. I sincerely hope that the collective experience of X-5 owners is not like mine.
