The Philips NAV drive actually houses a VDO/Carin system for GPS functionality (MAPS / interest points etc). I think the drive machinery is Philips itself.

But what OS does it use? MAUI OS9 (RTOS) by Microware
RTOS btw stands for Realtime Operating System.

Find an upgrade for the BMW application running on this OS and you got a new upgrade for your GPS :)
