Interesting. Does anyone know if there are any sites which detail how to "hack" a car computer system? The dealer obviously has the ability to hook into it, so certainly it could be done if you had the appropriate interface and software.

I haven't used OS9 except for on an old Tandy CoCo, but I used to follow it when I was an Amiga nut. Personally, I'd like to install a JVM on it and use that to make the car do what I want. It would be very cool if you could hook this up via a cable (wireless would be cooler still) and do what you need without having to rely on the dealer.

My company makes application servers and someday I hope that cars will run one to make it easy to interface with. There's no reason why all of these things have to be proprietary, but I guess opening things up just makes too much sense. It's not that everyone needs to be a programmer, but they could download new interfaces, interesting optimizations, etc. from the net.
