* Heated switches always start "off", ignoring the last setting. Annoying to have to keep setting these every morning.
* Interval wiper mode always starts "off" (!!) ignoring the last setting. This is particular egregious since if they did it right it would be the ideal "auto wiper" setting - never touch it.
* Headlights don't turn off with the power.
Why is is Volvo can get this right but BMW can't?
Other UI flaws have more to do with materials and execution than concept:
* the tailgate button that often catches
* the cargo cover that is hard to open and close
* the two cupholders that can't hold anything larger than two cans of soda. Oh and the cupholder cover is also hard to open.
Finally there are those that are just missing features
* I think it's Mickey who is ready to commit homicide over the missing "repeat" function on the CD player.
I'm curious what other peoples' nits are.
My answer to your question, if this board is any indication, the majority of people who own BMW's are not discerning enough to mind these and other shortcomings. If enough of us wrote to Purves and Milberg we might get some response and some better engineering. I'm afraid that for some of us, "owning" a BMW is the goal. I also believe, after having dealt with a number of BMWNA customer service people, that they feel we are fortunate to be able to drive their automobiles. Quality will not be forthcoming if we continue this absurd adulation!
