The Hango Personal Jukebox (6GB with upgrade to 20gb) fits perfectly under the slide cover for the center drink holder. (www.pjbox.com)

From there you can run power to the cigarette lighter at the rear of the center console and audio to your rear cd changer interface. Install Peripheral Interface BMWPILA and plug audio into this adapter. Plug BMWPILA into cd control and you're mp3 player is hooked into your car stereo system.

Factory mp3 player will not work with this setup, but Pioneer xx650 6 CD changer will work in conjunction with mp3 player (player is CD 0).

You will also need to eliminate the ground loop taht will develop between power at ceneter console and power to cd adapter in rear.

If you don't want a cd player and just want your mp3 player somewhere within reach, install could be done in five minutes.

BMWPILA is the key. It definitely works with X5 non-premium sound even though specs do not list X5.
