MB can't bring their CDI engines over here for the same reason. Our idiot politicians are happy to legislate better fuel economy requirements which would force companies to make lighter/weaker SUVs, but they won't do the simple thing and force better diesel refining. :-P
They did mandate better diesel fuel by 2009, but it should be a lot sooner.

FYI, the ML270CDI gets 28mpg and has more torque than the ML430 (16/20). 0-60mph is only 10sec, but it has better towing ability.
