A friend of mine has a 530d with the same engine the X5 will get and he averages at 25mpg. His engine is for tax reasons in Belgium limited to 163 bhp but he still gets the plenty 410Nm of torque (don't know the lb/ft figures). The X5 will not be limited and will peak at 193bhp. For comparison the 3.0 has 300Nm of torque so the diesel engine puts more than 25% more torque on the street and that's only 6% less than the V8.

Interesting to know is also that diesel costs 30% less than regular gas in Belgium (but still a horrible 3 USD per gallon)
