Good decision. No sense screwing up a very expensive electrical system. I, regretfully, am a tinkerer whom my wife says will probably burn the house to the ground doing something stupid. Incidentally, sorry for my double post, I thought I was timed out.

He said they do it all the time, and if I did it, it COULD void any problems caused by my wiring. Although I could do this myself, I thought it was cheap insurance to have the dealer do it. After all, I didn't skimp on the purchase of my X5. I always caution against making any electrical or component changes or modifications to a vehicle in warranty, because if something breaks, it could cause a problem. My dealer could wire it so it comes on with the ignition, or stays on all the time.
