Brand new X5 and I have two questions (archive)

I just picked up my '01 3.0 X5 on Friday, silver and black, sport, premium, climate, xenon, in dash CD, auto dimming mirrors and chrome wheels. First question the center vent. I have looked in the archives for a specific answer as to where do I position the dial. My dealer said I should keep it in the middle for the auto function to perform at its best but where is the middle? Any answers and feedback would be greatly appreciated. Second question, the rear vents for the back seat are very loud, and the air flow isn't as strong as I thought. Is this the way these vents work or should I get it checked out?
