BMW expects to add a smaller sport wagon based on the 3 series, and it may add a more upscale version of the X5, which would be called the X7. All three could be built at the BMW plant in Spartanburg County, S.C. A high-performance version of the X5 also is likely.

The Spartanburg plant recently announced a $300 million expansion to add models and to boost X5 production. The X3 is probably at least three years away. An X7 could come faster if it is based on the X5.
