It also got cold here last night, below 20 degrees. I went out to start the vehicle to warm up. When I tried to shut the door, the latch didn't catch. It just bounced open without catching. I've had this happen on one other occasion.
I have also experienced the problem with the doors not unlatching from the inside. I have also had to crawl out the window to get out.
I notified the National Transporatation & Safety Administration. The paperwork was recieved and returned yesterday.
This is an outstanding vehicle with a very dangerous flaw. My prayer is that noone is hurt by their inability to get out of the vehicle in the event of an emergency before BMWNA recognized there is a problem and corrects it.
It is below 20 degrees again, and I cannot get out of the front doors. Today, I cannot get in or out of the front doors, even thoough the locks appear to operate normally, and the handle moves freely. The car will go back to the dealer tomorrow, maybe for good. I am not crawling out the back any more. This is a safety defect I can't live with, and they have worked on it 3 times already. I have never had problems getting out of any vehicle before.I love the X5. This is an unfortunate decision, but I do not see any other alternatives to my safety.
