I've decided on the BMW X5, but which one? Well I test drove a 4.4i and loved it. I need help deciding. I came onto this website for unbiased true owner decision. The salesman wouldn't let me drive it by myself and I couldn't get a true feel for the car. I loved the 4.4i's acceleration, luxary, and the superb sports package, but hated the gas milege and the high price. I could afford it, but whew $57,800 is a lot for a mid-size SUV. Oh sorry I mean SAV! So I asked about a 3.0i, but they didn't have any in stock. I want to know, how much performance, luxary, and build quaility am I losing out of if I decide to go with the 3.0i? Am I getting a expensive alternative for a Explorer or am I getting a great BMW? I hear about the stories about averaging 90mph on the highway, we'll I get that performance on the 3.0i? Should I just opt for the 4.4i instead? Please help me?!?!? I might not get back on this board so, if you have some helpful thoughts please email them to me.....Thank you..........tommy_yi@msn.com

I have the same dilemma you have but I ordered my black on black 4.4 sport on Saturday and it should be here end of May. I had driven the 4.4 asa demo when the X5 first came out and loved it, but the price turned me away. About 2 weeks ago I drove the 3.0 and it was "peppy" but it seemed like it just didn't have that little extra oomph that my wives V8 Grand Cherokee has.

By the way the 4.4 is not 10k more, when all was said and done and the 4.4 and 3.0 were optioned the same is was more like $4000. Of course this was after the wheeling a dealing I made...
