Wow, what a story. Glad to hear stuff like
this...Tired of hearing people's problems
on this board. Something different.

Personally, I can't wait to take my X5
to Napa and load it up with some nice
wines from various wineries.

Or when December arrives, take the X5
up to the Santa Cruz mountains. And
on the way back with the Xmas tree
on top, take hiway 17 back home.

Went to dinner in S.F. last night. About a 60 minute drive(light traffic) on the freeway. So we finished eating and began our return trip at 11:00. Got on US80 heading for the Bay bridge. The little lady, she's real comfortable in the leather passenger seat. The quiteness of the car, the subtle red lighting of the cockpit illumination, Pink Floyd's playing in the CD, she's off to sleep.
I entered US80, crossed the bridge, doing 90, negligable traffic. Since the '89 earthquake, the freeway interchange from the bridge to 880 south is banked and newly surfaced, I took the bank to right, cooking about 105, effortlessly. Its like I'm thinking the turn, the car is just responding to where I'm looking. For the rest of the ride home I've got the left lane wide open. I'm averaging 100 all the way.
You have to understand that getting the freeway under these conditions, in the Bay Area is rare.
The little lady wakes up when I open the garage door. She looks at the clock, looks at me, and just shook her head. Did the ride in just over 40 minutes.
So to any new or prospective X5 owners this is what you are getting your hands on. A pure beast. Responds easily to a gentle hand, and eats the road up like a monster.
In the SCUBA diving community, the saying is that you have a greater likelyhood of a fatality traffic accident driving to the dive site, than you do seeing a Great White shark. With the X5, I've taken that edge off. Bring on JAWS.
