I did get the self dimming mirrors b/c I prefer to drive long distance at night which is precisely when the bright lights from behind bother me the most.

Some technical questions (like whether the self dimming mirrors can be added later) are best posted on the e39 board. Many members here on the e53 board are still new to the vehicle and as a result, have a somewhat limited knowledge of some specifics. Over time, I'm sure, we'll be upto sratch in these areas.
