I have a similarly equiped X5. Main test is the weekly trip to our "cottage" which is about 100 miles northeast of Toronto. The last 5 miles is on an extremly treacherous private road. Many people have gotten stuck or run off the road, myself included (prior to getting 4x4's). Tried the road with the regular 19" wheels with Diamaris a couple of times. Although the performance was better than I expected I didn't feel that we would make it after a big snow since road is ploughed sporadically. So finally broke down and put18" sport wheels from the 3.0 with Michelin Scorpion snow tires. Nothing will stop me now. Thanks for your advise. Yes I kept the trans in automatic. Never needed to use the other features. She cleans up pretty good huh!. I use the "Pinnacle Souveran 70% carnuba wax". Water just beads off.
