I've had my 4.4 for about 6 months, replace the coolant sensor and cap about a month ago due to 'check coolant' light. The other day, while just cruising around town, I started to smell what sounds like exactly what you're talking about. Checked under car, under hood, coolant level, etc and no sign of any problem. Smell seemed to go away later, but this was the first time in 5m miles, and hopefully the last. If you get any answers, please post.
