Problem with AM reception (archive)

I have a 3 week old X5 3.0 silver with black interior,non-sport and love this SAV. It's my 1st BMW and SAV, so you can imagine my joy in owning the X. This site [and Edmund's] helped alot so thanks to all.
I have the standard stero, and drive in the NYC metro area.
FM and cd play very clearly. AM reception has lots of static, sounds like a blown speaker, but it's not. Dealer listened to it and said could be amp. or wiring? When I asked if he saw this in other X5's, he responded " Not in this BMW model" which leads me to believe it may happen in some BMW's.
Any other experience?
Also plan on changing the oil at 4,000 miles to get rid of "break-in" oil. 15,000 miles seems to long to wait! has anyone done this?
